The SMB-5 was designed to meet the heavy-duty requirements of very large, high-pressure valves. The units are constructed with ductile iron gear housings to withstand the shocks attendant to operation of large valves as they may be slammed suddenly to open or close under the most severe conditions. The housings are also designed to accommodate an optional built-in handwheel spur gear reduction to reduce manual operating effort, should it be desired.
